NATIONAL DAY OF NATURAL PARKS – 08.06.2013

National Day of Parks On 08.06.2013. passed as part of the project “Conservation and restoration of 11 types of habitat types along rivers and wetlands in 10 Natura 2000 sites in the Bulgarian forests” LIFE08/NAT/BG/000281, conducted with the assistance of the LIFE + Programme of the European Union and WWF and GLOBUL.

Traditionally, the campaign is supported by eminent personalities of city’s public life, of the world of art, culture and media, which are symbolic ambassadors of natural parks. This year’s ambassadors of Natural Park “Blue Stones” was the mayor of Sliven engineer Nikola Milev and Ms. Nikolina Yancheva – actress from DramaTheatre Stefan Kirov.

Tourist Information Center at the beginning of Haidushka Pateka was the meeting point for all volunteers. Talk was given on protected plants and animals, then mayor of Sliven Nikola Milev draw winning names of the winners in the lottery. Prizes were provided by WWF and GLOBUL.

Despite the variable weather over 100 volunteers took part in the cleaning of some of the most frequently visited tourist routes and rest areas in the Park .Route: lower lift station – Halkata,Selishteto and around Todorovo spring, Ravna reka, the area around playground “Kalvacha” and around the lake of Karandila. Again, the most active were students and teachers from several schools in Sliven – HG “D. Damianov “GPZE,” H. Stoyanov “, VI school” Brothers Miladinovi “PMG” Good Chintulov “and others.

Directorate of Natural Park “Blue Stones” would like to thank the Mayor of Sliven Nikola Milev, Ms. Nikolina Yancheva – actress from DramaTheatre Stefan Kirov and all the participants who spent their time and made effort to clean up some of most loved and frequently visited by people from Sliven spots in the mountains

2200 kg of garbage was collected!

Hopefully there will be no need of such compaigns in the future!
