Vultures up close – a different kind of lesson in nature

On 26 August, the Directorate of Blue Stones Nature Park organised a field camp with the participation of the Sport Club of Acrobatics “Stefan Danchev” – Sliven, bringing together young and curious athletes.
The field camp was held within the framework of the “Bearded Vulture LIFE” project (Project No. 101113869 LIFE22-NAT-BG-Bearded Vulture LIFE), which brings together the efforts of 8 partners from 3 European countries.
Our goal was to introduce the young participants to vultures, their important role in nature and ecosystems, as well as the main threats facing these remarkable birds.
The first part of the camp took the group along a forest trail to the vulture adaptation aviary in the Dalgiya Rat (Karakyutuk) locality. There, the young athletes had the opportunity to observe the vultures housed in the facility and learn more about its role in conservation activities.
The visit continued with an informative talk led by staff of the Park Directorate. The participants learned about the specific challenges and conservation efforts related to the return of vultures to Bulgaria, as well as the latest activities and developments within the Bearded Vulture LIFE project.
And the best part? The questions just kept coming! The curiosity and enthusiasm of the young athletes showed that when nature is presented in an engaging and accessible way, it can become a true source of inspiration.
Because protecting nature begins with getting to know it.
